What is it?

The Dorset Max Card entitles the card holder (plus one other person eg a carer, P.A. or friend) to free or discounted access or other benefits at a range of around 100 leisure activities, venues and organisations across Dorset, Bournemouth, Poole and beyond.

Who can have the card?

The card is available to:

Group A: All Dorset (excluding Bournemouth and Poole) based young carers, children in care and some care leavers

Group B: All children and young people who are disabled and registered on The Xchange.

If your child is in Group A: the Max Card lasts for the current year and expires on 31 December each year.

If your child is in Group B: the card is age banded and can last for up to 4 years until your child is 18.
(NOTE: If you live in Bournemouth and Poole and were previously registered on The Xchange, please note that the Boroughs of Bournemouth and Poole withdrew from The Xchange in December 2015 - you can continue to use your Max Card until it expires but it cannot be renewed after that date.)

When and where can I use it?

Your Dorset Max Card can be used by your child on their own or with you or a friend/carer to obtain free or reduced rate entry or various forms of discount at lots of places. These include museums, leisure centres, activity venues, shops and cafe's. The number and range of organisations taking part in the scheme is growing all the time.

You can find a pdf download of the current participating venues by using the link below.

Always check beforehand

Although we try to keep the list and discounts up to date, venues can change their details from time to time. Sometimes they forget to tell us. For this reason we suggest that you always contact any venue you intend to visit for confirmation they are still part of the scheme and for details of opening hours, prices and to check the current discounts on offer.

Remember to check the list of venues regularly to find out where you can go.

The card is for your child only

Please do not lend, or let your child lend the card to anyone else - it is only for the child that the card is registered to. Venues are entitled to ask for other proof of ID before they give any discount.

How you can help the scheme

The more venues you have signed up, the better it is for you. If there is a venue where you would like to use your Max Card but it is not on the list, let us know and we will do our best to persuade them to join. Alternatively, you can tell the manager of the venue that you would like the venue to sign up and get them to contact us through The Xchange at Info@xchangeonline.co.uk

Problems

Occasionally staff at some venues are not aware of the card. For this reason, we try to encourage all venues to display the membership stickers we have sent them.

If you come across a venue who is a member of the scheme but who does not recognise the card or is not displaying a sticker please do let us know so that we can raise the issue with them.

Automatically issued.

If you are eligible to join The Xchange and register your child, then a Max Card will automatically be issued to you once your membership application has been accepted - you don't need to take any further action or apply for one.
